Gamepad re-detection

Status: in progress.

Goal

Handle a missing or reconnected gamepad and assign it to the right player.

The owner could not find a working re-detection page or control in the tested build. The old settings view has an unassigned refresh panel; seeing a controller name alone would not prove the correct player was reassigned.

A new settings page can find gamepads and let the user select one for P1 or P2 during gameplay. Simulated checks cover P1's returned pad, switching P2 to another pad, rejecting a pad already assigned to another player, and restoring P2's pad after release. The page and these paths still need a player-build check with real hardware.

To do

  • [ ] Complete missing-device handling and the disconnect, reconnect and re-detection path.
  • [ ] Check that reconnecting does not assign the gamepad to the wrong player or share input between players.
  • [ ] Have the owner test these steps with a real gamepad.

See control tests. Remapping is tracked separately in controls and remapping.
